Donating securities that have appreciated in value can be an extremely tax-effective way of giving. In most cases, you will be able to take the full market value of the securities on the date they are transferred as an itemized deduction, without incurring any tax on the gain represented by the difference between your cost and the current market value.

To help meet some of the vast unreached medical and dental needs found internationally, Vessels of Mercy, Intl. sends out short-term mission teams annually to minister to the immediate physical needs of people in poverty-stricken areas. All care is rendered without expense to the people we serve, but, as you can imagine, the amount of pharmacy, dental, and medical supplies that have to be obtained to care for hundreds of patients is an area of greatest need for our outreach clinics. We’re looking for individuals and organizations that would desire to help us meet these needs. We purchase supplies directly but also depend heavily upon in-kind donations. Please refer to the following guidelines:

Supplies:

We have on-going needs for ace wraps, eye-wash solution, over-the-counter wound and burn sprays, gauze, 4×4’s, 2×2’s, conforming gauze wrap, triangle bandages, alcohol wipes, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes, new-flip flops, generic sunglasses, reading glasses, and dental clinic supplies.

Equipment:

Vessels of Mercy does not routinely accept medical equipment. However, we do have specific needs for the following new or lightly used equipment: otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, portable digital BP/pulse machines, mobile vision screening equipment, and dental extraction instruments.

We do not accept the donation of equipment that is not in good working order.

Medications:

We have on-going needs for the following: Antibiotics, antibiotic ointments, extra-strength (500 mg) and regular strength (325 mg) Tylenol, Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) 200 mg, children’s chewable Tylenol, Robitussin cough medicine, Mucinex, Kwell lice shampoo, anti-inflammatory ointments (Hydrocortisone), anti-fungal creams, antacids (Tums, Pepcid, Zantac), Multivitamins (adult, children’s, and pre-natal), Benadryl (adult and children’s chewable), saline/artificial tears eye drops, allergy eye drops, anti-wax ear drop kits, cough drops, stool softeners, and prescription ear and eye drops.

We do not accept the donation of expired or unlabeled medication or narcotic/controlled substances.

If you have a desire to serve the medical needs through this work, please consider designating financial support to our medical outreach.
