Operation Homefront-Serving our Veterans
You can be a part of delivering hope to our veterans in November
Vessels of Mercy Intl. is once again serving our veterans here in RVA. On November 11, we observe Veteran’s Day to honor our military veterans that have served in the United States Armed Forces. There are 18.8 million veterans in the U.S. Of that number, 4.7 million are reported to have a service-connected disability. Soldiers often return from the field wounded, disabled, and left to fend for themselves with little help from family or the government. Many will tell you that they are lonely. They have no one to visit them or bring them much-needed items and no one to care for them. Unfortunately, if you walk the halls of the VA Hospital, this is the story told all too often.
Will you help us deliver a bit of hope? We need individuals, small groups, and civic clubs to help us fill goodie bags for those who have been forgotten or forsaken and confined to the hospital or nursing home. You can bring encouragement and hope by filling a goodie bag with the items listed on our website. Goodie bags will be delivered to the designated recipients the week of November 11 in honor of Veterans Day! This list, available at the websites below, is the approved list for this project (generic brands are acceptable). Please purchase your items so that all bags will be genderneutral.
We ask that you create bags with 4-6 items but feel free to adjust due to the cost. You may also add a card or note to any bag you donate! (Empty bags (blue) are available for pickup and filling at our office.) DEADLINE TO RECEIVE BAGS IN THE OFFICE: October 27 at noon. Contact our office if you would like to be a part of the team that will deliver the bags.
